Erectile Dysfunction
Trimix
TriMix is an approved FDA prescribed injectable medication consisting of three active ingredients: alprostadil, papaverine and phentolamine. Together, these three medications help to relax, expand, and fill the corpus cavernosum (erectile tissue) with blood resulting in an erection shortly after administration. Unlike oral medications, TriMix injections are localized to the intended area rather than having to flow through the bloodstream into other areas of the body. TriMix is indicated in the treatment of males with erectile dysfunction. This injectable medication is indicated for patients who are unable to safely take, or who have not had good results from PDES inhibitors.
TriMix injections are self-administered and can be performed quickly and easily from the comfort of your own home. The medication is titrated, or increased slowly overtime, to reach the safest and most effective dose. Your provider can teach out how to self-administer the medication, either in person or by video.

What are possible side effects?
Bleeding and bruising at the injection site are possible side effects, especially if you are taking a blood thinner, such as Coumadin or Aspirin. Your healthcare provider will review your medications and teach how you to inject to minimize bruising and bleeding. Peyronie's Disease, the development of curvature in the erect penis, which can be painful and interfere with intercourse, is a possible side effect with long-term use of Trimix. Peyronie's Disease, is caused by a buildup of plaque or scar tissue inside the penis in the lining of the corpora cavernosa. These are the two sponge-like cylinders running the length of the penis into which the medication is injected. It is relatively rare and can be treated. You can minimize the risk of getting Peyronie’s by learning to inject correctly and alternate injection sites. Another potential side effect is a prolonged erection, also called a priapism. This is an easily managed but is a potentially serious complication. If ignored, it may result in severe pain and complete impotence necessitating placement of a penile prosthesis. If you develop a full erection lasting for more than 4 hours, you should call your provider at once or go to the emergency room. Your medical provider will work closely with you to ensure you are injecting the lowest and effective dose.
Can Trimix injections be used with a vacuum erection device?
